You use it to trigger your other big money cards. Say you have a Cheese Factory which gives you $20. It only triggers on a 7 roll though. If you have a Gaming Mega Store in play it allows you to trigger your Cheese Factory on a 10 roll as well.
I usually use Machi Koro as an introduction game and Bright Lights Big City is really mean. Someone is always stealing from other people and it can feel really bad, to the point where people stop having fun because nothing they do seems to matter. I personally do not think there is enough meat to Machi Koro to justify how mean BLBC is.

My wife and I enjoy Machi Koro quite a bit, as do the people we play games with together (the group of people I game with also seems to enjoy it). Normally my tastes run closer to Caylus, but this is a game where you can play it while having a conversation and without very many opportunities for people to feel attacked because the dice control many of the outcomes.
