Loans in Brass can be key to a successful game. Loans at the very beginning are very cheap to repay, where as loans later in the game can be very expensive. If you are likely to need a loan at any point during the game (which you almost certainly will), I would advise you to take the loan early. Some other pieces of advice I would offer.

I love the design of Vinhos and Gallerist but I (somewhat)disagree with Lisboa, it's very busy and noisey comparatively. Of course maybe it would make more sense after having played it, but it seems easier to look at the board for Vinhos or Gallerist and get a sense of the game state whereas Lisboa has so much design and filigree it's quite distracting.

Brass is my favorite game and although I like it at two players, I'm sad that you can't get the same feelings as a 4p game. I can't wait to try it! The rules seem very similar to Brass, the most notable exceptions being the market instead of the hand of cards as well as a single era.
